Library Accessibility and Renovaton Project
Library Accessibility and Renovation Project
October 2010 - A Letter to Friends of the Simon Fairfield Public Library:
The library is the center of our community. It provides academic support to our children; outreach programs to seniors; intergenerational programs; meeting space for non-profit groups and home schoolers; access to desk top and laptop computers; access to public Wi-Fi; and stocks up to date information, best sellers, hot topics and innovative formats such as MP3 audio books; all of which brings community members together and fosters lifelong learning.
The library was built in 1903, a gift to the town from James M Fairfield in memory of his parents. The building is in need of renovation. Renovation of the library would provide ADA access which is required by Federal law. The renovation would also allow the utilization of approximately 40% of the building which is not useable due to the current layout.
- An entire building that is handicapped accessible, including a new entrance with an elevator in the rear, and new bathrooms
- More space for additional computers with high speed internet access
- Appropriate space for the children's library
- A free meeting space which can accommodate a larger number of people
- Parking behind the building away from the busy road.
Now we need your help. The library's services are more important than ever as families struggle in this economy and everyone should have access to the library.
Details of the library renovation project will be on the agenda at the Fall Town Meeting.
We also welcome donations; your contribution goes directly to the building renovation fund. Please make your check payable to the Simon Fairfield Public Library Building Fund and mail to:
